SAW: An Introduction to Contracts for the New Entrepreneur

OVERVIEW: Multifaceted contracts workshop will include discussions of what a contract is (its elements, types of contracts, the legal and practical consequences of entering into a contract), as well as provide participants with an opportunity to take an in-depth look at an actual contract to better understand and appreciate contract negotiations. Discussion of contract law, which will allow participants to more effectively and efficiently communicate with their lawyers and thus, decrease their legal expenses. An experienced practitioner and law professor will be participating in the trainings, providing participants with another credible source of information as to how to maximize their cooperation and benefits (and limit their costs) in relation to the creation of contracts. Participants will be learning in a small classroom environment, which will allow for a more intensive learning experience and more individualized attention.

PRESENTER BIOS:

Carletta Traylor: Carletta Traylor is a Chicago native and third-year law student at DePaul University College of Law. She graduated from Smith College in 2014 with a B.A. in Government (with honors). Carletta has a passion for employment law, and this passion has led her to her current position as a law clerk with The Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman, P.C. in Chicago. Carletta has taken the following courses during her time at DePaul: Contracts, as well as Employment Law (which has an emphasis on employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and remedies).

Tamalyn Wandler: Originally from South Jersey, Tamalyn attended Loyola University Chicago where she received a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Criminal Justice & Criminology. A Health Law Fellow and current third year law student from DePaul University College of Law, she has a passion for Health Law Policy and Healthcare Compliance. She is currently employed with Goldberg Law Group, LLC.

Professor Julie D. Lawton: Professor Lawton teaches at DePaul University College of Law. Prior to joining DePaul, she previously taught at Georgetown University. She received her LLM from Georgetown University, her JD, cum laude, from Howard University, and BS, magna cum laude, from Florida A&M University. After graduating from law school, she was an attorney with Morrison & Foerster LLP in Washington, D.C., where she handled a variety of corporate and transactional matters. She was the founding Managing Member of Lawton Development, a real estate development company. Prior to her legal career, she served as a financial analyst with Bank of America in Atlanta.
